राजामाता पुण्यश्लोक आहिल्याबाई होळकर यांची ३१ मे रोजी जयंती आहे. या जयंतीनिमित्त विनम्र अभिवादन ! आहिल्याबाई यांचा जन्म ३१ मे १७२५ रोजी चौंडी, ता. जामखेड, जि. अहमदनगर येथे झाला. त्यांचा कार्यकाळ १७६७ ते १७९५ होता. त्या शुरवीर खंडेराव होळकर यांच्या पत्नी व सुभेदार मालेराव होळकर यांच्या मात्रोश्री होत्या. मुत्सद्दी आहिल्याबाई म्हणजे तळपती समशेर आणि लखलखती वीज होती. लोककल्याणकारी कार्य करत असताना त्यांनी प्रदेशाची मर्यादा न ठेवता संपूर्ण भारतात काम केले. त्याचे कर्तृत्व, काम, जनतेविषय आदर, सदभावना, प्रत्येक गरीबांना जास्तीत जास्त सुखाने जगता यावे, यासाठी सतत तळमळ, धर्मनिरपेक्षता, लोक कल्याणकारी राज्याची निर्मिती केली.
दया, क्षमा, शांती, या अजरामर कर्तृत्वासाठी जनतेने त्यांना लोकमाता, राजमाता, विरांगणा, पुण्यश्लोक, देवी, गंगाजळ निर्मळ, कुशल प्रशासक, राज्य शासक, मातोश्री ह्या पदव्या दिल्या आहेत. कुठलाही पदवीदान समारंभ न घेता या पदव्या दोनशे वर्षे टिकून आहेत. त्याच्या या जयंती निमित्त त्यांच्या कार्याचे स्मरण होऊन कृतीत उतरविण्यासाठी त्यांच्या कार्याचा उजाळा करू या !
१) त्या धार्मिक होत्या परंतू, धर्मांध नव्हत्या. त्यांनी धार्मिक कार्यात नदीवर बऱ्याच ठिकाणी घाट बांधले.
२) जनावरांना पिण्यासाठी पाणी देवस्थान व रोडवर विहीरी बांधल्या.
३) धार्मिक भावना जपताना अनेक ठिकाणी देवळे, दर्गा बांधले व जुन्याचे संवर्धन, जीर्णोद्धार केला.
४) प्रवासी, पर्यटक, वारकरी यांना राहण्यासाठी धार्मिक स्थळे, शहरात धर्मशाळा, बांधल्या.
५) गोरगरीब, धार्मिक जनता यांच्यासाठी पाणपोई, अनछत्राची उभारणी केली.
७) अपार शहाणपण, दुरदुष्टी आणि तडफ असणाऱ्या कुशल राज्यशासक असणारी अलौकीक स्त्री म्हणून त्या अजरामर आहेत.
८) भांडण, तंटा, कलह याचा अभ्यास करून अचूक न्यायदानाचा हातखंडा होता व हे मिटविण्यासाठी गावोगाव पंचायत स्थापना केल्या.
९) कुशल राजनितीच्या कुशल नेत्या व एका नजरेत हिशोब करण्यात तरबेज असलेली एकमेव राणी होत्या.
१०) त्या स्वतः रणांगणात, युद्धात उतरत, तोफा ओतने, गोळा तयार करणे, तीरबाजी, तलवारबाजी, घोडेस्वार याचे कौशल्य होते. त्यांनी त्यांचे राज्यात प्रथमतः स्त्रीयांचे सैन्यदलची उभारणी केली.
११) नैसर्गिक आपत्ती, महापूर, टोळधाड, गाराचा पाऊस, अवर्षन, फौजेच्या हालचालीमुळे पिकाचे नुकसान अशावेळी आहिल्याबाई आपल्या प्रजेस शेतकरी वर्गात शेतसाऱ्याची सुट देत असत. नैसर्गिक आपत्तीत मदत करत असल्याने धोरणाच्या उदगात्या म्हणून ओळखल्या जातात.
१२) कृषि व इतर वस्तू माल आयात व निर्यात करणे, वाढविणे व कर चे त्यांनी सर्वात प्रथम धोरण अवलंबन्याकरण्या राजनेत्या होत्या.
१३) अनाथ, दिव्यांग व असहाय्य लोकांना मदत, पूर्नवसन करणाऱ्या पहिल्या राणी म्हणून त्यांची ख्याती आहे.
१४) टपाल सेवा करून टपाल सेवेच्या जनक म्हणून त्यांना ओळखले जाते.
१५) राज्यात प्रथमतः हुंडाबंदीसाठी राज्यात कायदा करून आर्दश निर्माण केला
१६) राज्यातील प्रजेची गाय, शेळी, मेंढी चाखण्यासाठी जमिनी राखून ठेवल्या. १७) वनाचे वनराईला राष्ट्रीय संपत्ती घोषीत करून वन्यप्राणी संरक्षणासाठी अभयारण्य आखण्याची संकल्पना मांडून कृतीत आणणारी पहीली राणी म्हणून प्रचीती आहे.
१८) विद्ववत्तामध्ये आहिल्या कामधेणू व वत्स या ग्रंथाचे लिखान केले व ब्रम्हपुरी सारख्या विश्वविद्यालयाची उभारणी केली.
१९) स्त्रियांना दत्तक मुलगा घेण्याची प्रथम परवानगी देणाऱ्या राणी म्हणून समाजीक बांधीलकी जोपासणारी एकमेव राणी होत्या.
२०) समाजातील वंचितांना भिल्ल, गौंड समाज प्रवाहात आणून त्यांना स्वराज्यांचे रक्षक बनविले.
