ज्योतीताई पाटील यांचे सासर निमगाव मगराचे आहे. ज्येष्ठ नेते स्वर्गीय कृष्णाराव पाटील यांच्या घराण्यामधील संघर्षमय राजकीय जीवनाला सुरुवात करणारे कल्पक बुद्धी व उच्च विचारसरणी असणारे सोलापूर जिल्हा नियोजन समितीचे सदस्य व भारतीय जनता पक्षाचे सोलापूर जिल्हा सह प्रभारी व प्रांतिक सदस्य के. के. पाटील यांच्या धर्मपत्नी आहेत. सौ ज्योतीताई यांचे शालेय शिक्षण, कॉलेज बारामती येथे झालेले आहे. शिक्षणामध्ये अतिशय हुशार असल्याने त्यांचा प्रथम क्रमांक असत. त्यांनी बी. एस. सी. पूर्ण केलेले आहे. माहेर व सासरचा राजकीय वारसा आहे. केके पाटील यांनी माळशिरस पंचायत समितीचे सदस्य पदावर तीन टर्म काम केलेले आहे. आरक्षणामध्ये जिल्हा परिषद गट महिला राखीव झाल्यानंतर सौ. ज्योतीताई पाटील यांनी जिल्हा परिषद सदस्य पदावर काम केलेले आहे. जिल्हा परिषद सदस्य असताना अनेक प्रलंबित प्रश्नांना सभागृहांमध्ये वाचा फोडलेली आहे. ज्योतीताई यांनी कार्यातून स्वतःची वेगळी ओळख निर्माण केलेली होती. स्पष्ट व परखड वक्तव्य असल्याने समोरच्या व्यक्तींवर कामांचा प्रभाव पडतो.
